Photographic installation Moments that Never Happened

Moments that Never Happened - a photographic installation based on anonymous answers to the question: What is it that you truly desire?

As many as 222 people from all over Lithuania shared their deepest desires, ranging from group sex with men and the wish to lose weight to a longing for true love or meeting like-minded people. From all these responses, ten were selected to form the basis of the installation - a series of creative photographs that visualise how these desires might look if fulfilled in reality.

The installation explores the theme of art, design, and well-being by emphasizing that the act of longing is one of the most human traits, with many desires often tied to universal values such as love, peace, and others. To effectively visualise these emotions, project balances between reality and fiction, experienced and imagined - each photo was crafted to imitate shots from people's photo albums, movie stills, or simply replicate fragments of reality. Moreover, the people posing in the photographs are not professional models but individuals who already experience the desires represented in the project.

The approach to installation - imitation of the home corner - further explores the boundary between reality and fiction. Home-like furniture, interior decor, and arrangement of the photos make the space appear as a home corner of an unknown person - the viewer is welcomed into other people's worlds and experiences, just like guests are welcomed at home.

A shining mirror on the wall invites every visitor not only to observe but also to indulge in self-reflection. After stopping and seeing their reflection in a mirror, everyone is encouraged to contribute to the installation by writing their desire on a note and attaching it to the wall. In this way, the installation will continuously grow and reveal the broad image of what people long for the most.

So, are you familiar with your true desires?
